Deleting Estimator Line Items

NOTE-- We retired the MacNail estimating program in 2000, and replaced it with Goldenseal construction estimating software. There are still a significant number of die-hard MacNail users, so we keep the manuals online for them! Goldenseal is an integrated program that also includes accounting, scheduling and contract writing features. It's very easy to add or remove line items from Goldenseal Estimates.

Deleting Construction Line Items

To permanently delete one Specification line item from the MacNail construction estimating software, click the mouse anywhere in the row you'd like to remove, then choose Delete Rows from the Edit menu. The selected row will be completely removed, and the rows beneath it will be shifted up to take its place.

To delete a cluster of Specifications line items, drag the mouse through all the rows you'd like to remove, then choose Delete Rows from the Edit menu.

NOTE: You must always leave at least one item in each section of Specifications. You also won't be allowed to delete heading rows.

To delete many scattered items from Specifications:

1. Scroll through Specifications, and check for line items that you'd like to remove.
2. Click in the title column for each item you'd like to remove, and use the backspace or delete key to remove the text from it. You should leave at least one item in each category. You should not delete text in heading rows (in bold letters).
NOTE: If you are told that 'Locked cells cannot be changed', first choose Unprotect Document from the Options menu, then try again!
3. Once you've blanked out all the rows you'd like to remove, choose Remove Blank Specs from the Format menu. After asking you for confirmation, MacNail will automatically delete every line with a blank title row (unless it is a heading or the only item in a category). The process may take a while
