What is MacNail Customizing?

NOTE-- We retired MacNail in 2000, and replaced it with Goldenseal construction estimating software. There are still die-hard MacNail users, so we keep the manuals online for them! Goldenseal also includes accounting, scheduling and contract writing features.

MacNail Customizing Introduction

MacNail Customizing is a set of utilities that works along with the MacNail construction estimating software.

MacNail Customizing lets you build new custom MacNail estimators. These new estimators work just like the 'stock' estimators that come packaged with MacNail. If you use MacNail Accounting, you can turn your new estimators into job cost comparison sheets. If you use the MacNail scheduling software, you can turn them into schedules and material takeoff lists.

You can also use MacNail Customizing to change existing estimators-- with it you can add or delete unit prices or change the way they are calculated. You can also add, delete or rename any of the cost categories used to assemble a finished bid.

MacNail Customizing also maintains your 'price book' of unit prices. It changes the cost of each line item when the prices of materials change. It allows you to keep a Price Master-- a central storage file for unit price information. It also 'feeds back' cost data from your Job Cost worksheets, adjusting your unit prices based on your actual experiences.

MacNail Customizing also provides a few additional utilities. It lets you add man-hour totals to your estimates. It lets you automatically 'tidy up' items that you don't need in an estimator. And it creates 'Style Sheets' that store information about different types of projects, so you can reduce the number of estimators you need to keep on your hard disk.
