Categories & Styles

NOTE-- We retired the MacNail estimating program in 2000, and replaced it with Goldenseal construction estimating software. There are still a significant number of die-hard MacNail users, so we keep the manuals online for them! Goldenseal is an integrated program that also includes accounting, scheduling and contract writing features. Goldenseal also includes a system of cost categories, for grouping items in estimates and expense tracking.

Rename Category

Choose Rename Category to change the name of a category or subcategory in an Estimate or Estimator. The new cost category will be renamed in the Specifications, Clearinghouse and Summation levels of the construction estimating file. See page 43 for further instructions.

*Get Style

Choose Get Style to record the 'style' of an estimate or estimator. The choices you've made in the 'units used ' column will be recorded in a Style Sheet file. See page 57 for further instructions.

*Apply Style

Choose Apply Style to install the project 'style' from a Style sheet onto an estimate or estimator. The 'units used' column will be given the same formulas as were in the original estimate or estimator used to create the Style Sheet. See page 58 for further instructions.

Remove Blank Specs

Choose Remove Blank Specs to remove blank line items from the Specifications section of an Estimate or Estimator in the MacNail construction estimating software. This command allows you to 'clean up' a large number of Specifications line items at once. See pages 47-48 for further instructions.
