Doorway or Window Fill

Construction Item Description

Construction estimating unit cost for filling a doorway or window opening with 2x4 framing, in preparation for replacing it with a solid wall.

Unit Size

One doorway or window opening.

Labor Costs

We figure about 1.5 hours of carpenter time to fill one opening. That is sufficient time to cut lumber to custom thickness or shim the framing to match the position of existing surfaces in any thickness of wall.

NOTE-- If you know you'll be working in a wall framed with standard thickness lumber, you can probably reduce the labor cost considerably.

Material Costs

We figure about 24 lineal feet of 2x6 lumber plus some fastehers and shim shingles. If you are filling in an opening that was framed with standard 2x4 walls you can replace the lumber with 2x4's instead.

Suggested Quantity

No suggestion. Enter the number of doorways or window openings that you are filling in.

Source of Construction Pricing
