Overhead Allocating (Possible)

How can I allocate overhead costs to each project?

When you use Goldenseal estimating software to create a project estimate, you can add a percentage or fixed price amount to cover your non-project operating costs such as insurance, vehicles, equipment, office staff and advertising. When you enter actual expenses, you will job cost those expenses to an Overhead account (unless for some reason it can apply directly to one project).

In theory, we could make job costing more useful by allocating a portion of project income to overhead accounts (so you could see if overhead expenses are covered by income).

In practice, nobody has ever asked for this feature, and we haven't been inspired to program it in without knowing that it is a feature that would actually be used. So, if it is something you want, please let us know!
