Here are some
hints and suggestions for project
billing:
- Draw Schedule & Progress Billing--
Usually you'll type in a percent of completion, but
you can also type in a dollar
amount (Goldenseal will then calculate the % for
that amount).
- Time and Materials Billing--
We usually call the markup amount a "management fee",
since it sounds more like a service provided.
- The very simplest billing type is a simple Draw
Schedule with just one draw. If you are getting more than
one payment, you can simply write up a partial draw
on the one draw stage.
- Allowances will make your life much easier when preparing
estimates. If the specs aren't firm enough to calculate
a firm price, there's no need to gamble. Just allowance
that item.
- Get into the habit of writing Change
Orders whenever
there is a change of specs, or a delay that is beyond
your control. It will help you to collect payment
for every bit of work that you do, and
it will also clarify changes, so you are
less likely to be involved in
a nasty dispute.
