Swapping Your Company File

Can I use Goldenseal on more than one computer without having a network?

Yes, you can swap one Goldenseal company file between two different computers. Usually that happens when you have both a laptop computer that you carry with you, and a desktop machine in your office or home office.

NOTE-- If only one person is using Goldenseal, you can get the single-user version and still use it on more than one computer. If there are multiple people using Goldenseal, you should get a multi-user version. Click here for more about licensing for multiple people or multiple computers.

Computer Setup

If you are using Goldenseal on more than one computer, start by doing the following:

Install Goldenseal on one computer. You can use the CD that we send you, or download it from our website.
Also install the Goldenseal program on the second computer.

File Setup

Next, set up a Company File for your business. You can do that on either computer. Follow the detailed instructions on page 159 of your Getting Started manual.

Moving Files

To move files from one computer to the other, use any of these methods:

Copy the file to a flash drive, and then copy the file from the flash drive to the other computer
Burn a CD, and then copy from the CD to the other computer. You'll also get a backup copy on the CD
Attach the file to an email, and send it. Then download the file to the other computer.
Hook both computers to an Ethernet or wireless network, and send the file over the network.

Warnings

You'll need to keep track of where you have the newest version of your company file.

HINT-- If you are not sure, you can check the file date, to see which was revised most recently. However that is not 100% safe, since you may have opened the older file. It's better to open each file and look for recent record additions or changes.
