Manager Doesn't Work

Problem

SYMPTOM: user opens a MacNail Manager of any kind, and nothing happens. No menus, no 'Convert to latest version...' dialog, nothing. Inactive manager in MacNail construction software.

Diagnosis

check which version of excel they have (choose About from the Help menu at far right). check which version they were shipped. If former is <4 and latter is 4, that's the problem.

ALT DIAGNOSIS: have them read off a few lines from the manager. If it's gibberish, they are trying to read an xl 4 file with xl 3 or earlier, and it won't work.

NOTE-- This answer applies to MacNail construction software, retired in 2001. It has been replaced by Goldenseal estimating software and accounting software for Macintosh and Windows. Goldenseal does not require Excel, and will not have problems like this.

Solution

If they have <4 and we sent 4, we'll send new disks.
If their disk says "XL4" and the problem still occurs, we may have sent them a mislabelled disk- send a new one anyway.
