BidMagic Application Errors

Problem

Windows version- crashing on startup, giving "general protection" error or "application error, usually when they first open BidMagic estimating software

Diagnosis

more things to try:
2. video drivers: are they running SVGA or VGA, or some other video driver? If SVGA, try switching to regular VGA, which takes up less memory and is more compatible w/ ToolBook. To do this, they will need to launch Windows Setup from their Program Manager (be very careful walking them through this- installing the wrong video driver could crash Windows, after which they will have to reinstall Windows to get back on track.) Most monitors will be able to run in standard VGA mode.

Solution

3. Do they have SHARE.EXE turned on in their AUTOEXEC.BAT file? If so, try turning it off (can put a REM command in front of the SHARE.EXE line, thus REMarking it out). ToolBook doesn't like SHARE.EXE-- although usually will give a 'sharing violation' error, not a general crash.

Comments

4. Their hard drive may be fragmented, have bad clusters, or suffer from any other thing that DOS drives suffer from. If they are running DOS 6.2 or later, they can try a scandisk from the C: prompt. Otherwise, try chkdsk from the C prompt. If they have Norton, even better, run Norton on it. If any damage shows up on the drive, they should attempt to fix it, then reinstall BidMagic Construction Estimating Software.

NOTE-- We retired BidMagic estimating software back in 2002, and replaced with Goldenseal-- which is integrated estimating software and project management software (plus optional accounting software).
