Locking Estimating Specs

NOTE-- We retired the BidMagic construction estimating software in 2001. It has been replaced by Goldenseal construction estimating software.

We still include this BidMagic estimating software manual as a convenience for users of our older program. Many features are similar, in Goldenseal estimating.

The BidMagic construction estimating software automatically calculates a suggested quantities for estimating line items that are "locked".

Using Suggested Quantities For Estimates

Most items in the BidMagic Price Book have a suggested quantity, based on a formula that uses measurements from Dimensions. When you add a new item that has a suggested formula, the item will be locked.

HINT: If you want to add a new item and not have it be locked, hold down the Option key when you click the pop-up button to select the item, and it will start out unlocked.

Locked items show a padlock instead of a nudge button, and the quantity itself is in italics. If you change the project dimensions, any suggested quantities that are affected by the change will be adjusted automatically.

To unlock a locked item, hold down the Option or Command key and click on the padlock. It will be converted to a nudge button, and you'll then be able to change the quantity.

To lock an item, hold down the Command key and click on the nudge button. It will be converted back to a padlock, and the suggested quantity will be put into the field.

NOTE: Items with no suggested formula (including 'other' items) have a black-and-white nudge button, and cannot be locked.
