More Navigating in Estimates

NOTE-- We retired the BidMagic construction estimating software in 2001. It has been replaced by Goldenseal construction estimating software.

We still include this BidMagic estimating software manual as a convenience for users of our older program. Many features are similar, in Goldenseal estimating.

Using the Room Menu

If you are estimating a remodeling project, you will also see a Rooms menu at the top of the screen.

Go to Room can take you to any room. Type in the room name or the room number, and you'll jump directly to the room with that name or number.

The room menu also lists each room individually at the bottom of the menu. Click on a room name, and you'll jump directly to that room.

NOTE: If you have more than 30 rooms in the project, only the first 30 rooms will be listed.

If you have too many rooms to fit on the screen, you'll see a a downward facing arrow at the bottom of the menu. Drag the mouse to the bottom of the menu and the remaining rooms will scroll into view.

Using Navigate Buttons

In addition to the menu commands, nearly all of the cards in BidMagic have a set of 'navigate' buttons at the upper right corner of the window. Click them to use basic functions or to move around in BidMagic very quickly.

The Help button shows a Help field that explains how to use the current card.

NOTE: Once you are finished with a Help field, click the mouse anywhere in the field to hide it again.

The Calculator button calculates the price of the project. Clicking this button is the same as choosing Calculate from the Bid menu.

The Compass button lets you navigate to anywhere in the BidMagic estimating software. When you click it with the mouse and hold down the mouse button, it 'pops up' a menu that lists each of the basic areas in the BidMagic construction estimating software.

NOTE: If you choose Dimensions or Specifications, a submenu appears. Choose a specific item from the menu, and you will go to that card (which shows a specific construction dimension or construction specification area).

The Left Arrow button moves you back to the card immediately to the left of the current card. It takes you 'backwards' in the estimating process.

The Right Arrow button takes you ahead to the card immediately to the right of the current card. It moves you 'forward' through the estimating process.

HINT: If you start at Basic Costs and keep clicking the 'right arrow' button, you'll go through the entire estimating process in sequence.
