Roof Dimensions

BidMagic estimating software allows you to enter roof dimensions, so it will calculate quantities for each type of roofing construction method.

From the Foundation Dimensions card, click the Right Arrow button to get to the Roof Dimensions card.

HINT: You can also choose Dimensions from the Navigate menu, then click the Roof button. Another way to get to this card--click on the Compass button and choose Dimensions, then choose Roof from the submenu.

This card allows you to enter specific information about any roofs included in a project that includes roofing.

Horizontal Area Under New Roofs

This horizontal (floor) area under new roofing and new roof framing is calculated for you, based on the overall project area entered previously on the Basic Dimensions or Room cards. If either measurement is incorrect, unlock the value and adjust it.

Roof Type

Use the cycle button to choose the roof type that most nearly matches the roof on your project.
For most roof types, you'll also need to enter additional information such as the presence of an overhang or parapet, the amount of overhang (or parapet height) and the slope.

Complex Roofs

If you choose a complex roof, you'll see an Edit complex roof button. Click this button to display the Complex Roof card--where you can enter specifics about each portion of the roof.

Dormers and Gables

Dormers and/or gables can be entered as separate structures on most types of roof. Enter measurements for each in the lower left portion of the Roof Dimensions card.

Calculated Dimensions

Once you have entered the basic roof information, click the Update button, and quantities will be calculated for gross roof area (including slopes and overhangs), plus eaves, ridge, rake, gables, valleys, and a few additional quantities.

You can unlock any of these quantities and change them if the 'suggested' quantities are not correct.
