Foundation Dimensions

NOTE-- We retired the BidMagic construction estimating software in 2001. It has been replaced by Goldenseal construction estimating software.

We still include this BidMagic estimating software manual as a convenience for users of our older program. Many features are similar, in Goldenseal estimating.

From the Basic Dimensions card or the last room card, click the Right Arrow button to get to the Foundations card.

HINT: You can also choose Dimensions from the Navigate menu, then click the Foundations button. Another way to get to this card--click on the Compass button and choose Dimensions, then choose Foundations from the submenu.

Types of Foundation

The Foundation Dimensions card includes estimating for four basic types of foundation work:

  • Poured continuous footings or grade beams.
  • Piers or pilings.
  • Basement and stem walls.
  • Floor slabs.

Turn on the checkbox for each type of work that will be included in your project, and turn off the checkbox for any types of foundation work that will not be included--so it will not be displayed.

EXAMPLE: A slab-on-grade project using a monolithic pour (no stem wall) would use the setup illustrated on the previous page. Turn on the checkboxes for Footings and Slabs, and turn off the checkboxes for Basement Walls and Piers.

Foundation Measurements

Enter the measurements asked for in each section of the Foundations card. In this case, you'll enter the length, width and thickness of the footing, and the area and thickness of floor slab used in each location.

NOTE: If you want to change any locked quantity, hold down the Command key and click the padlock.
In the Dimensions card you are only entering measurements for the foundation, rather than actual construction materials or methods. Later on in the Concrete Specifications card, you'll enter the actual footing work itself.
