Lockable Nudge Buttons

NOTE-- We retired the BidMagic construction estimating software in 2001. It has been replaced by Goldenseal construction estimating software.

We still include this BidMagic estimating software manual as a convenience for users of our older program. Many features are similar, in Goldenseal estimating.

Entering Estimate Quantities with Nudge Buttons

Some nudge buttons are lockable. When you lock them, they'll use a 'suggested' value based on previous information in BidMagic. When you unlock them, you can type in any number.

To practice working with lockable nudge buttons, follow these steps:

  1. Enter a number into the Labor Fudge Factor, using the nudge button or the keyboard. Notice that the Material and Subcontractor Fudge Factors also change when a new number is entered into the Labor Fudge Factor. NOTE: To enter a number once you have typed it, hit the Tab or Enter key. If you don't have padlocks next to the Material and Subcontractor Fudge Factors, skip to step 4, then return to step 1.
  2. When they are locked, the Material and Subcontractor Fudge Factors use a 'suggested' value equal to the Labor Fudge Factor. To unlock the buttons, hold down the Option or Command key, and click on the padlock.
  3. The padlock will turn into a nudge button, and you'll be able to enter new values with the nudge button or the keyboard.
  4. To lock the buttons again, hold down the Command key and click each nudge button. They will become a padlock, and the 'suggested' values will be used again. NOTE: Only gray nudge buttons can be locked. Black-and-white nudge buttons have no 'suggested' value that can be calculated, and they cannot be turned into a padlock.
