Estimating Wall Framing & Roof Framing

NOTE-- We retired the BidMagic construction estimating software in 2001. It has been replaced by Goldenseal construction estimating software.

We still include this BidMagic estimating software manual as a convenience for users of our older program. Many features are similar, in Goldenseal estimating.

The BidMagic construction estimating software includes unit costs for wall framing and roof framing.

Wall & Roof Framing Estimates

Wall & Roof Framing includes wall, roof and ceiling framing. To get to this card, click on the Structures button on the Specs Directory, then choose Wall & Roof Framing from the pop-up menu.

Exterior Walls handles any metal or wood frame walls that are exposed to the outdoors. Enter masonry walls in the Concrete or Masonry cards instead.

NOTE: Most wall assemblies include an adjustment for joist spacing, while wall sheathing includes a material adjustment for the plywood thickness (both entered on the Structural Dimensions card). Using these adjustments allows one line item to cover several possible construction choices.

Interior Walls includes all metal or wood frame walls that are not exposed to the outdoors.

NOTE: Most wall assemblies include an adjustment for joist spacing, while wall sheathing includes a material adjustment for the plywood thickness as well. Both of these measurements are entered on the Structural Dimensions card.

Roof Assemblies covers roof rafters or trusses and roof sheathing.

NOTE: Most roof assemblies include an adjustment for rafter spacing, while roof sheathing includes a material adjustment for the plywood thickness (both entered on the Structural Dimensions card).

Ceilings & Soffits includes attic floor framing, which should be used only for an attic storage space where there is an actual floor. It also includes independent ceiling framing (which does not include ceilings that are attached to floor joists or roof trusses) and soffits over kitchen or bathroom cabinets.
