Estimating Small Quantities

NOTE-- We retired the BidMagic construction estimating software in 2001. It has been replaced by Goldenseal construction estimating software.

We still include this BidMagic estimating software manual as a convenience for users of our older program. Many features are similar, in Goldenseal estimating.

Small Quantities--As an additional Cost

For moderately small quantities, you can use the regular unit price for the item, and then add an additional cost for 'getting organized. '

For example, to install 20 square feet of baseboard:

  1. Go to the Specifications card that best describes the item --in this case, Interior Trim.
  2. Click on the pop-up button next to a blank item in the subcategory that best describes the item, and choose the regular unit price.
  3. Click on the pop-up button for another blank item in the same subcategory, and choose Other from the menu.
  4. Type in a brief description for the additional cost.
  5. Compute (or guess) how much extra it will cost because of the small quantity, and enter it.

Small Quantities--as a new Unit Cost

If you often need to install small quantities of some common construction items, create a new unit cost for a minimum quantity (see page 258).
