Estimating Site Work

Use the Site Work card to enter land clearing and other construction prep work into the BidMagic estimating software.

Construction Site Work

Site Work includes an assortment of preliminary work that needs to be done before actual building construction can take place. To get to this card, click on the Site Preparation button on the Specs Directory, then choose Site Work from the pop-up menu.

Site Clearing includes the cost of clearing brush or trees from the lot. If this work is to be done by an excavation subcontractor, you might want to include this cost in general excavation (see page 287) rather than here.

HINT: To have line items start out with an unlocked field, hold down the Option key when you click on the pop-up button. It will save you from having to unlock the padlock for each item!

Tests & Drilling includes the cost of septic percolation tests, soil testing and drilling for piers. If this work is to be done by an excavation subcontractor, you might want to include this cost in general excavation (see page 285) rather than here.

Site & Vegetation Protection covers any special work done to protect existing vegetation or other natural features. This is often an important cost when doing exterior remodeling work!

Pilings & Caissons covers the cost of any drilled pilings or caissons, or other similar structures.
Project Utilities includes wells, septic tanks, storm drains, water mains, and any other basic utilities. If such work is being done by the excavation, electrical or plumbing subcontractors, include it in those categories instead.

Other Site Work gives you a place to put any other site work that needs to be done-- for example, the removal of toxic materials, animal census work, etc.
