Estimating Roofing Dimensions

NOTE-- We retired the BidMagic construction estimating software in 2001. It has been replaced by Goldenseal construction estimating software.

We still include this BidMagic estimating software manual as a convenience for users of our older program. Many features are similar, in Goldenseal estimating.

Basic Roof Dimensions

Most roofs require additional information about slope and roof elevations, so the BidMagic construction estimating software can compute the amount of roofing work that will be required.

NOTE: For each roof, you'll also enter whether a parapet or overhang is used, along with the parapet height and the overhang amount and slope.

If none or flat roof is selected as a roof type, you won't need to enter any other basic roof information.

For a shed, gable or hip roof, enter the slope of the main roof (measured in inches rise per foot run).

For a gambrel or mansard roof, enter the slope of the upper roof segment, the slope of the lower roof segment, and the height of the change in slope.

For an arch or dome roof, enter the minimum and maximum slopes (in degrees), and the total height of the roof.

For a complex roof, use the Complex Roof card to handle each section of roof. It calculates roofing estimates for each section of a complex roof.
