Estimating Paint Areas

NOTE-- We retired the BidMagic painting estimating software in 2001. It has been replaced by Goldenseal construction estimating software.

We still include this BidMagic estimating software manual as a convenience for users of our older program. Many features are similar, in Goldenseal estimating.

BidMagic paint estimating software calculates quantities for painting work.

Paint Quantities

In this section you'll handle quantities used in the application of paint and other liquid surface coatings.

Number of Paint Coats

Enter the number of coats used on interior walls, ceilings, floors and trim. Also enter the number of coats used on exterior walls and trim. Include primer coats as well as finish coats.

If you use a different number of coats on different parts of the project, enter the number of coats used on the largest area or use a weighted average.

NOTE: If you always subcontract painting on a fixed price basis, or if you never use paint or similar coatings, you may ignore this section.

Paint Areas

If locked, each of these quantities will be calculated for you, based on the values entered in Dimensions. For remodeling projects, all room surfaces that were highlighted in the Paint section will be included here.

NOTE: In this section you only need to worry about the overall surface area that will get some kind of paint or other finish on it. The actual types of paint to be used are handled in Specifications.

You should only need to change these quantities if, for some reason, you are painting more or less area than suggested.

NOTE: To determine whether to use gross or net areas for paint quantities, make a choice on the Paint line on the Preferences card (see page 96).
