Using Estimating Templates

NOTE-- We retired the BidMagic construction estimating software in 2001. It has been replaced by Goldenseal construction estimating software.

We still include this BidMagic estimating software manual as a convenience for users of our older program. Many features are similar, in Goldenseal estimating.

Using Estimating Templates

To use a template to create an estimate for a specific project, follow these steps:

  1. Open the template that is most similar to the project you are bidding.
  2. When you are asked, enter a new file name. You may want to name it after the owners of the project or its location, or you can use any other brief descriptive phrase (29 characters or fewer). Click OK.
  3. Spot-check the Basic Costs, Overhead and Soft Costs cards. Change any items that are different for this particular project.
  4. Go through Dimensions, and enter all information that is specific to this project, just as if you were creating a new bid from a blank copy of BidMagic.
  5. In Specifications, most of the costs for the project should already be included, so you can concentrate on the differences between this project and the 'standard' project. Check each card, and add any additional costs that are peculiar to this particular project. Remove any costs that don't apply to this project, or change quantities if the 'suggested' amount is not correct.
