Estimating File Management

NOTE-- We retired the BidMagic construction estimating software in 2001. It has been replaced by Goldenseal construction estimating software.

We still include this BidMagic estimating software manual as a convenience for users of our older program. Many features are similar, in Goldenseal estimating.

Each BidMagic estimate is stored as a separate file on your hard drive. You can use the Macintosh Finder to manage your files so you get the best use out of the BidMagic construction bidding software.

Starting a New Bid

When you open BidMagic to start your first bid or estimate, BidMagic will ask you for a file name under which to save a new estimate file.

The bid will be saved on your hard drive under whatever name you type in. The original BidMagic template will still be left intact on your hard drive, so you can make future estimates from it.

Saving Changes to a Bid

BidMagic automatically saves any changes you make to a bid or estimate, right when you make them. You don't need to do anything special to make sure BidMagic will remember the changes you've made to each bid!

Finishing a Bid

When you are finished with an estimate or bid, you can do any of the following with it:

  • Keep the file on your hard drive until you are sure you'll never need it again. This option gives you the quickest access to the file.
  • Save a backup copy on a floppy disk, a tape backup, or some other medium, then remove it from your hard drive.
  • Save an archive copy with the Create Archive command. This option takes up the least amount of disk space.
  • Save the file as a template so it's easier to bid similar projects in the future.
