Adjusting Suggested Specifications

NOTE-- We retired the BidMagic construction estimating software in 2001. It has been replaced by Goldenseal construction estimating software.

We still include this BidMagic estimating software manual as a convenience for users of our older program. Many features are similar, in Goldenseal estimating.

If you are in Specifications, you can temporarily modify any item's 'suggested' formula to handle a special situation.

To modify a formula, use the Formula Editor, which can be reached from the Unit Price Editor.

For example, to add 100 square feet to the suggested quantity for hanging 1/2" wallboard, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Interior Walls & Ceilings card in Specifications.
  2. Click on any pop-up button under Wallboard Hanging, then choose Edit Unit Prices from the bottom of the menu.
  3. Click on 1/2" wallboard from the list of unit prices in the left side of the Unit Prices window.
  4. Click the Edit button next to the Suggested Quantity on the right side of the Unit Prices window.
  5. The existing 'suggested' formula will be displayed near the bottom. To add 100 to it, click the mouse on the + (plus) key in the Keypad at upper right, then enter 100 by clicking on the number buttons with the mouse.
  6. Click OK to leave the Formula Editor.
  7. Click Save and Return to accept the changes and leave the Unit Price Editor.

WARNING: You can change formulas in an estimate, since it won't be used again. But do not change formulas in an estimating template unless you want the new formula to be used in all future projects by the BidMagic construction estimating software!
