MacNail Scheduling Components

NOTE-- We retired the MacNail construction software package in 2000, and replaced it with Goldenseal construction software. Goldenseal is a complete computer software package for builders and remodelers, providing accounting, estimating, and project scheduling features. Our new software program does all that MacNail Scheduling did, along with other project management features such as change orders and improved project billing.

Takeoffs and Tool Lists

The MacNail project management software will provide a material takeoff list from any MacNail schedule. The takeoff list can be made from the entire schedule, or from a selected range of items.

The takeoff list shows the material items you will have to order, with quantity and unit size for each. It also includes a "piece calculator" that lets you calculate piece quantities for framing and trim lumber, based on the length and footage.

Tool Lists can also be made from any MacNail schedule. They include all tools needed for each item of work in the schedule-- which can be very handy, especially for small projects.

Reminders, Punch Lists, and Inspections

The MacNail construction scheduling software lets you maintain "floating reminder" lists, with the oldest items on top, and new items on the bottom. Reminders can be entered into separate job reminder files, or into a master file that includes all projects.
When a reminder is finished, you can either delete it completely, or delete it and send it to the Double-Check List for later confirmation.

Punch Lists can be made from any of the reminder lists-- showing items that need to be done by a particular subcontractor or employee.

MacNail Scheduling also includes quality control inspection sheets, for use when various construction milestones are reached.

Linking to Other Scheduling Programs

A MacNail schedule can be exported to other scheduling programs: MacProject II, MacSchedule, or FastTrack. These links allow you to transfer all project time information out of a MacNail schedule, and into these other project management software programs.

MacProject II is a critical-path scheduling program that handles multiple projects, resource leveling, and estimated versus actual time comparisons. It creates Gantt charts, and resource histograms showing the work load of each subcontractor or employee.

MacSchedule and FastTrack will convert a MacNail schedule into a Gantt chart, allowing for better visualization of the time needed for each phase of the project.
