Exporting Schedules

NOTE-- We retired the MacNail construction software package in 2000, and replaced it with Goldenseal construction software. Goldenseal is a complete computer software package for builders and remodelers, providing accounting, estimating, and project scheduling features. There is a simple time-line construction schedule built into every Goldeneal Estimate record.

Exporting a Schedule to MacProject II

Linking the MacNail construction scheduling software to MacProject II is a two step process. First you will export schedule information from MacNail, then you will import it into MacProject.

To export a schedule from MacNail:

1. Create a schedule in MacNail Scheduling, using the *New Schedule command. You can use either a MacNail estimate or a project list as a source.
2. Pay particular attention to the project start date and the crew sizes for each item. Enter the most reasonable values that you have available. When figuring crew sizes, include only those workers who will be actually assigned to the listed task.
NOTE: This is different from the way you would normally handle a MacNail schedule.
3. Don't worry about the actual dates that appear in the MacNail schedule, or about the delay factor, parallel items, date formulas, new schedule items, lead times, or fixed dates. MacProject will figure its own time sequence, in a much more sophisticated manner than is possible in the MacNail project management software.
4. When the MacNail schedule is completed, choose *Export Schedule from the Data menu.
5. Click on the MacProject button, then click OK.
6. If a schedule is currently the active document, it will be used to make the export. If a schedule is not active, you will be asked to choose a schedule to use as a source.
7. The MacNail project management software will take anywhere from 3 to 24 minutes to process the schedule-- depending on the number of items in the schedule, and the speed of your computer.
8. The file will be automatically saved under the project name. If you exported the Smith Schedule, the export file will be called Smith MacProject Export.
9. You are now finished with the MacNail portion of the link.
