Creating a Category

NOTE-- We retired the MacNail estimating program in 2000, and replaced it with Goldenseal construction estimating software. There are still a significant number of die-hard MacNail users, so we keep the manuals online for them! Goldenseal is an integrated program that also includes accounting, scheduling and contract writing. The estimating cost categories in Goldenseal are very similar to the ones used in MacNail.

Creating a new Category Name

To create a new category name in the MacNail construction management software, make sure the active file is a Category Sheet or an estimating worksheet.

1. Choose Code Systems from the Data menu.
2. If you're using an estimating worksheet, you'll be asked which code systems to change. Click 'Category codes', then click OK. Otherwise you can proceed directly to the next step.
3. When you're asked to assign a category code, click the New button at the right.
4. You'll be asked to type in a category name. Enter it, then click OK. The new category name will be entered into the Category Code Master, and the category name of the active file will be changed.
