Moving Assemblies

NOTE-- We retired the MacNail estimating program in 2000, and replaced it with Goldenseal construction estimating software. There are still a significant number of die-hard MacNail users, so we keep the manuals online for them! Goldenseal is an integrated program that also includes accounting, scheduling and contract writing. It's assemblies are easy to access from any estimate, so you don't need a special process to move them.

Moving Assemblies between Worksheets

If you are using more than one set of Material Price files in the MacNail construction management software, you can copy and paste items between different Assemblies files. You can also move items between two different Material Prices or Comparisons files.

To move rows between Assemblies files:
1. Choose Open File from the File menu, and select 'Assemblies' from the list of file types. Open the destination Assemblies file to which you want to move the new items.
2. If the file is protected, choose Unprotect Document from the Options menu. It's also a good idea to choose Sort Special from the Data menu, and sort by 'item code'.
3. Drag the mouse through the rows where you'd like to add the new items, then choose Add Rows from the Edit menu.
4. Repeat step 1, opening the source Assemblies file from which you want to get items.
5. Repeat step 2. Then drag the mouse through the rows you'd like to move-- make sure you have selected all four columns in the rows.
6. Choose Copy from the Edit menu.
7. Choose the destination file name from the bottom of the Window menu, to bring it to the front. Click the cell at the upper left corner of the area where you'd like to add the new items.
8. Choose Paste from the Edit menu.
9. If necessary, activate the source file, and repeat steps 6 to 8 for any additional items.
10. When you are finished, protect both documents.
