Backing Up Customizing Files |
NOTE-- We retired the MacNail estimating program in 2000, and replaced it with Goldenseal construction estimating software. There are still a significant number of die-hard MacNail users, so we keep the manuals online for them! Goldenseal is an integrated program that also includes accounting, scheduling and contract writing. Estimating File Backups Make at least one copy of the original MacNail construction management software master floppy disk before using it, then use the copy to install MacNail onto your hard drive. Never use the original master floppy disk. Carefully store the master disk and the copy of it-- they are your disk backups for the original MacNail files if your hard disk copies are ever damaged accidentallys. Backup floppies should stay cool and dry, and should be kept away from magnetic fields of all kinds. Keep them away from electrical devices (including the sides and top of your computer, hard disk and printer). NOTE: If necessary, replacement disks may be ordered from Turtle Creek-- we do charge a shipping/handling charge except for damaged disks reported within 30 days of purchase. Backing Up Your Daily Work Be sure to make daily backup copies of your worksheets and reports as you create them with the MacNail project management software-- using floppy disks, a second hard disk, a tape backup unit, or some other storage medium. Your data is precious! Consider a second backup copy for all important files. Store it off-premises for protection against fire, theft, or other calamities. Once you have stored backup copies of inactive reports or worksheets, you may remove them from your hard disk to free up space, if it is needed. The cost of a floppy disk is much less than the cost of the information on it! |
