Using Category Systems

NOTE-- We retired the MacNail estimating program in 2000, and replaced it with Goldenseal construction estimating software. There are still a significant number of die-hard MacNail users, so we keep the manuals online for them! Goldenseal is an integrated program that also includes accounting, scheduling and contract writing.

Using Estimating Category Systems

When you use the Move Prices command to move unit prices and other information to an existing line item, the MacNail construction management software uses the item code number to recognize each item. It doesn't matter which category system you are using in the source and destination worksheets.

When you use the Move Prices command to move new items, however, then the category systems make a difference, since The MacNail construction estimating software needs to know exactly where in Specifications the new item should go. If the source and destination worksheets use the same category system, the move is made with no additional complications. When the files use different category systems, however, then MacNail needs to know how the two category systems match up. In that case the Category Code Master is opened, and used to determine the correct place to put each new item.
