Feeding back Payroll Burden

The Labor Log uses a 'burden' factor for each employee to add the approximate cost of employer taxes to the gross pay that is used for job costing.

NOTE-- Our newer Goldenseal construction accounting software automatically adds "burden" to job costing amounts. There is no additional step required.

You can increase the accuracy of your job costing by feeding back actual payroll 'burden' from the Payroll Report to the Labor Log.

To feed back the payroll burden in the MacNail construction payroll software:

1. Create a Payroll Report for the most recent pay period (see page 114).
2. Adjust the Payroll Report for any special deductions, as needed (see pages 115-117)
3. Update Payroll files, so your FICA, FUTA, SUTA and Disability rates will be adjusted if over the maximum values (see page 118).
4. Choose *Cost Control from the McN menu. It will transfer you to the Cost Control portion of MacNail.
5. Choose *Feedback Payroll Burden from the DATA menu (see page 184).
6. If the Payroll Report is the active file, it will be used. Otherwise, you will be able to choose a Payroll Report.
7. The actual payroll burden for each employee will be calculated, based on payroll figures. This new burden will be used to adjust the original Labor Log(s) used as a source for the Payroll Report.
