Job Cost Posting

Post job costs whenever you want to see the latest costs for each of your projects in the MacNail construction accounting software. You should be able to post ten to fifty items per minute, depending on the speed of your computer. NOTE: Modern computers will do the posting MUCH faster than that.

NOTE-- Goldenseal job costing software automatically posts job costs to each project, right when you enter expenses. There is no need for an additional step. Goldenseal was released in 2000, and replaces MacNail accounting.

You don't have to be at the computer yourself while the posting occurs--it will all happen automatically. You can probably schedule the posting to run over your lunch hour or at some other idle time.

NOTE: For increased accuracy, you may want to feed back your payroll costs to the Labor Log before posting labor costs (see page 121).

To post job costs:
1. Choose *Post to Job Costs from the DATA menu.
2. You will be asked which files to use as a source. Choose This File if you want to use the file that is active (in front). Choose Main File to use just the main file (see page 168). Choose All Open Files to use all Ledgers and Logbooks that are currently open. Choose All Files in Folder to use all of the files in the Current Accounts folder.
3. Unless you chose This File, another dialog box will be displayed. Put a check beside each of the items that you would like to post in this session.
4. The different Ledgers and Logbooks will each be opened in turn. All items will be scanned, and then posted to the appropriate Job Cost Control worksheet.
