Accounting Master Index

The first step in MacNail Accounting is to set up a 'lookup' list of your employees, suppliers, subcontractors and projects. This information will be stored in the Master Index.

NOTE-- In 2000, MacNail was replaced by Goldenseal construction accounting software. Goldenseal is an integrated program that includes general accounting, job costing, payroll and project billing, plus estimating and other features. It uses separate accounts, rather than a Master Index spreadsheet file.

Some other accounting systems call this a Chart of Accounts. Since we include more than just a listing of account names,in the MacNail construction accounting software we have expanded this file to be known as the Master Index.

The Master Index will save you time in your data entry--it lets you type in a single code number, and have the payee and project 'looked up' for you.

To open the Master Index, click on the MACNAIL menu (McN, located on the far right part of the menu bar) and choose *Master Index.

The Master Index already includes some sample names. Later on, you can replace the sample Master Index with a blank one, and type in your own supplier names (see page 59).
