Wood Shingle Removal Cost

Construction ITEM DESCRIPTION

Construction demolition unit cost for the removal of exterior wood shingles on walls or roofs.

Unit Size

One square foot of shingles.

Labor Costs

We figure an unskilled worker can remove about 22 square feet of hardwood flooring per hour. The time includes prying up the old flooring, salvaging good pieces and hauling the rest to a dump truck or dumpster, and pulling, cutting or driving down all fasteners.

Material Costs

We figure one wrecking bar per 500 square feet of flooring removal. This cost covers lost and damaged tools, plus incidentals such as gloves and dust masks.

Suggested Quantity

This unit cost uses the calculated flooring demolition area. You'll probably need to fill in actual areas that have hardwood flooring on them, since most projects will probably have a mixture of flooring types.

Source of Construction Pricing

We averaged the time taken for removal of wood strip flooring during several remodeling projects done by Turtle Creek Construction.

NOTE-- with the right equipment it may be possible to remove hardwood flooring much more quickly. We'd suggest trying an angle grinder to cut through the flooring nails right at the subfloor level.
