Chimney pad 2x3x8"

Construction Category SubCategory
Concrete Concrete Floor Slabs

Construction ITEM DESCRIPTION

Concrete estimating unit cost for a concrete pad used as the foundation for a masonry chimney-- size 2 ft x 3 ft x 8" thick (metric-- 600mm x 900mm x 200mm).

This cost applies to a slab placed in an unfinished (dirt floor) basement, or for a raised slab poured on top of a regular basement floor slab.

NOTE-- This size of concrete foundation pad is designed for a simple block or brick single-flue chimney. For larger masonry chimneys, you'll probably need a wider support pad, depending on the bearing quality of the substrate.

Unit Size

One pad.

Labor Costs

We figure about 3/4 hour of labor to form and place the pad-- part skilled and part unskilled.

NOTE-- This time quantity does not include any setup time or cleanup time. It's also based on experienced construction workers. Do-it-yourselfers will probably take longer.

Material Costs

The cost includes 10 lineal feet of 2x8 lumber, a bit of reinforcing mesh, and 4 cu ft of ready-mix concrete (.15 cu yd).

METRIC VERSION-- 3000mm of 50x200 lumber and .12 cubic meter of concrete.

Comments

The cost will be much higher if the pad is the only work you're doing. The cost listed here will apply only if you are including it in along with a larger pour of a slab or footings. Add 1/2 to 1 hour of setup and cleanup time if it's all you are doing!

Add about 3/4 hour for hand-mixed concrete from bagged concrete mix, or 1 hour if you are mixing gravel, sand and portland cement (9:3:1).
