Show in All Subcategories

Feature

Goldenseal estimating software version 3.8 adds an optional Show in All Subcategories checkbox for Assemblies and Cost Items. It allows you to always show an item when its category is selected, no matter what subcategory is being used. This checkbox is similar to the Show in All Categories checkbox, only its action is more limited.

How to Use

Right now this is an optional field. To add it to your layout, follow these steps:

  1. Choose Custom Layouts from the Options menu, and choose Transactions from the submenu.
  2. Enter Assemblies into the Transaction popup field at upper left.
  3. Click on the Field tool (fourth row left).
  4. Click in the layout, and drag a rectangle where you'd like the field to appear.
  5. Scroll through the list of optional fields, and choose Show in All Subcategories, then click OK.
  6. Close the layout, and save changes.
  7. The next time you open the transaction window, it will include the new checkbox.

NOTE-- You can also add the checkbox to Cost Item records.

To show an item in all subcategories, follow these steps:

  1. Choose Assemblies from the Costs menu.
  2. Use the Find command to locate the assembly that you'd like to include in all subcategories.
  3. Click on the Include in All Subcategories checkbox to turn it on.
  4. Hit the Enter key to save the record.
  5. The next time you enter the Assembly into an Estimate line item, it will appear whenever its category is in the Category column, no matter what is in the Subcategory column.

Technical Details

This one was easy to add, since it works almost the same as the existing Show in All Categories feature. Note that we always welcome user suggestions, for enhancements in the Goldenseal estimating software program.
