Blocking Error Messages

Feature

Starting with Goldenseal small business software version 3.6, we've added an option to block all error messages and warning dialogs.

This feature is useful for people who use our multi-user accounting software, and who sometimes have a person working on the server machine.

NOTE-- We are not adding this feature to the general interface, since it hides warnings and messages that may be important. This feature is designed for a small number of users who alternate between having a person working on the server machine, and having the server computer sitting passively.

Setup

This feature uses an optional field in Interface Preferences. To use it, you'll first need to add a new field to the data entry layout. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Choose Custom Layouts from the Options menu, and choose Lists from the submenu.
  2. Enter Prefs-Interface into the List Type popup field at upper left.
  3. Click on the Field tool (4th row left in the tool palette on the left side of the window).
  4. Click in the layout, and drag a rectangle at the place where you'd like to add a new field.
  5. Goldenseal will show a list of optional fields. Choose Hide All Error Warnings, and click OK.
  6. Close the Custom Layouts window, and click Save when it asks whether to save changes.

How to Use

After you have added the new field from the previous steps, follow these steps to turn off error warnings:

  1. Choose Preferences from the Options menu, and choose Interface from the submenu.
  2. Turn on the checkbox for Hide All Error Warnings.
  3. Click OK.

The Goldenseal small business software program will stop giving alerts and error warnings.

NOTE-- If you sign onto the multi-user version as a client, you will still see error warnings on your computer. However if you work on the server machine, it will not show error messages while you are using it.

Technical Details

If you don't have employees working on a server machine, turn off the Allow Data Entry in Server checkbox in Network Preferences. That will automatically block error warnings on the server.

This new feature only applies to cases when you are using the server for data entry, but don't always have someone at the server.
