2012 Social Security W-2 Forms

How do I get the correct withholding amount for 2011 Social Security?

For at least some states, we had an incorrect formula on the W-2 printed form. It only became a problem for 2011 wages, when the employee and employer amounts were different for FICA / Social Security.

NOTE-- If you import 2012 tax tables, it will fix this problem automatically, because the import files include corrected payroll calculators.

Setting up Calculators

To get the correct W-2 amounts, follow these steps:

  1. Choose Calculators from the Options menu, and choose Payroll Taxes from the submenu.
  2. Scroll to the Social Security Withheld Tax item, and double-click on it.
  3. Click in the table at right, and enter FICA-- SS Whold.
  4. Click OK.
