Opening Network Files

I tried to open a Goldenseal file over the network, and it says the file is locked or on a CD!

If you try to open a Goldenseal business file using regular file sharing, you'll get a message that the file is locked. That is because the file is already being used by the server, so you can't access it as you would a regular file.

NOTE-- The multi-user version of Goldenseal accounting software shares files with a special client/server mode, that allows many users to access the same data at the same time.

Macintosh Clients

To sign on as a client from a Macintosh computer, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Goldenseal application on the client machine.
  2. When you are asked to open a file, click Cancel.
  3. Choose Open as Client from the File menu.
  4. Choose Local Network when you are asked for a connection type.
  5. Choose your usual server from the list of servers, then click OK.

Windows Clients

To sign on as a client from a Windows computer, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Goldenseal application on the client machine.
  2. When you are asked to open a file, click the Server button.
  3. Choose Local Network when you are asked for a connection type.
