Problem
Excel Bombs or Unexpectedly Quits
Type 1 error, crashing, hang, system freeze
while using MacNail construction
estimating and accounting software
NOTE-- This answer applies to our
retired MacNail construction software, which has been
replaced by Goldenseal estimating
software and accounting
software for Macintosh and Windows.
Diagnosis
frequent bombs or unexpected quits
Solution
1. Assign MORE MEMORY (see item #134)
2. Try running without INITs/ Extensions (restart with shift key down)
3. For Power PC--- Go to the Memory Control Panel, and turn OFF the 'Modern Memory Manager'
option.
4. Are they using RAMDoubler or DiskDoubler? Turn them OFF.
5. Refer them to MS Tech: 206 635-7080 Mac 206 635-7070 Windows XL
MICROSOFT # TO ORDER XL 4.0a: 800 360-7561
6. Does it crash just when opening one file, or running one menu command? If so, may need
to replace the offending file or manager with a backup copy or copy from original floppy
disk. (May want to make a copy of the offending file first, just in case it's not the problem).
7. If none of the above work, may need to replace the Excel application from the original
floppy disk. Some people have had chronic problems with XL4 and XL5 getting corrupted-- if
that happens, it helps a lot to have a spare copy of Excel on the hard disk.
8. If none of the above, it may be hard disk corruption or other hardware problem.
