Incorrect Password

Problem

"incorrect password" error
gives a dialog asking to unprotect a protected document while using MacNail construction software

Diagnosis

if it asks for password during macnail operations, it's because users protected the document with a PASSWORD. That's a no-no.

To make sure it's protected, cancel out of operation, bring the offending worksheet to the front, choose Unprotect Document, hit OK without doing a password. If it doesn't allow that, it has a password.

Solution

1. Can they remember the password? Ask around and see if someone else may have put one in??
2. Try single letter keys as passwords?
3. If neither of the above works, can make a blank worksheet of the same type and copy/paste information from the protected worksheet to the new one.

Comments

NOTE-- Excel 3.0 and newer make you type in the password twice, so it's a lot harder to accidentally enter a password.

NOTE-- they may want to call MS Tech to see if they have a better solution). Early XL versions let you erase the password with ResEdit, but newer versions are more secure.
