can't use menu commands
menu commands don't work

NOTE-- This answer applies to MacNail construction software, etired in 2001. It has been replaced by Goldenseal estimating software and accounting software for Macintosh and Windows-- a stand-alone program that does not require Excel.

Diagnosis

• ALL menus are grey
• some menus are grey

Solution

• if ALL menus are grey- they need to hit ENTER key to get out of data entry mode.
• if only some menus are grey, 1) worksheet may be protected, need to unprotect first or
2) Early excels sometimes lose menus when memory is low. Try Fix Menus. May need to close some docs, or quit and reopen Excel if real bad.
Giving excel more memory will probably also help.
3) XL5 also has lost menus at least once. Fix Menus seems to fix it-- may have to be done several times. May also be a low-memory symptom.

Comments

Early excel's seemed to disable menu commands when memory got tight or fragmented, but I've never noticed it in xl 3 or 4. -D-
4) XL3 and Newer systems also seem to have this problem sometimes. Fix menus a whole bunch of times fixes it. If they have XL3, check and see if they have XL3.0a or not. If not, they can reqest free upgrade from MS. Not sure if it'll help or not but worth a try.
