Files Corrupted

Problem

MacNail (or any) files are getting corrupted, changes not being saved, or file 'disappears' from MacNail construction estimating software or construction accounting software
This is a problem with Windows 6.0 only.

NOTE-- This answer applies to our retired MacNail construction software, which has since been replaced by Goldenseal construction estimating software and construction accounting software for Macintosh and Windows.

Diagnosis

Windows 6 makes some things faster by NOT writing saves to disk right away. When you exit windows, it saves in the background AFTER the C:> prompt appears! If they shut off as soon as they get the C:> as is standard procedure for most people, they can lose their day's work or corrupt files (if it cuts off in the middle of the save).

Solution

1. Bug Microsoft for a copy of Windows 6.2 (which fixes this and other problems)
2. Be sure to wait until the disk is no longer being accessed before turning off computer. Doing it at the C:> prompt is no longer safe!
3. There are utilities out there on Compuserve etc that prevent the C:> prompt from being shown until all files are completely saved.
