Estimating High Ceilings

NOTE-- We retired the BidMagic construction estimating software in 2001. It has been replaced by Goldenseal construction estimating software.

We still include this BidMagic estimating software manual as a convenience for users of our older program. Many features are similar, in Goldenseal estimating.

High and Vaulted Ceiling Costs

BidMagic is capable of correctly calculating basic project dimensions, whatever ceiling heights you enter for the project. If you have unusually high "vaulted" ceilings, there are some additional costs that you'll probably want to enter as separate line items in Specifications.

If staging or scaffolding is required because of the high ceilings, add their quantity under Cranes & Scaffolding on the General Conditions 2 card.

You may also want to add separate line item costs for the additional cost of framing, wallboard, painting, and possibly insulation and interior trim, due to the high ceilings.

HINT: The stock price book for Wallboard Hanging includes a separate line item for 'high ceilings.'
If you frequently work with high ceilings, you may want to create separate line items for work on different ceiling heights. See pages 258-275 for more about the creation of new unit prices.
