Calibrating the Quality Factor

NOTE-- We retired the BidMagic construction estimating software program in 2001. It has been replaced by Goldenseal construction estimating software, which is a big improvement.

We still include this BidMagic estimating software manual as a convenience for die-hard users of our older estimating programs!

Calibrating the Quality Factor

If you plan to use the BidMagic construction estimating software program only for rough estimates, the fastest way to calibrate its prices is to use the Quality factor on the Basic Costs card.

NOTE: If you are using BidMagic for finished bids, you won't be able to use the Quality factor.

Once you have entered dimensions and specifications for your test project, slide the house left or right, then hit the Calculator button--and keep trying different positions until the estimate matches what the project should actually cost.

NOTE: The quality factor affects some items more than others. To adjust the impact of the quality factor on each construction area, see pages 140-141.

Once you have calibrated the Quality factor for several jobs, you can get a 'feel' for the correct setting to use on different types of projects.

Before sitting down with clients to give them a planning price, adjust the Quality factor to the spot that you think best suits the income range, neighborhood or expectations of the clients.

WARNING: When doing 'high end' work, the Quality factor has more impact than you might think! See pages 137-140 for more about the Quality factor.
