Estimating Foundations

NOTE-- We retired the BidMagic construction estimating software in 2001. It has been replaced by Goldenseal construction estimating software.

We still include this BidMagic estimating software manual as a convenience for users of our older program. Many features are similar, in Goldenseal estimating.

The BidMagic construction estimating software includes dimensions designed specifically for estimating masonry and concrete quantities.

To enter Foundation Dimensions, choose Dimensions from the Navigate menu, then click on the Foundation button at the bottom of the Dimensions card.

HINT: To get here you can also click on the Compass button and choose Dimensions, then choose Foundations from the submenu.

The Foundation Dimensions card includes four basic types of foundation work:

Poured continuous footings and grade beams.
Piers and pilings.
Basement and stem walls.
Floor slabs.

NOTE: For more about specific types of foundations, see pages 356-365.

Turn on the button for each type of work that will be included in your project, and turn off the button for any work that will not be included. See pages 356-365 for more on the handling of specific types of foundations.

EXAMPLES: In Canada, the Northeast and Midwest, most foundations will consist of a footing and a basement wall or stem wall. In the Southeast, many foundations will be either simple piers, or a monolithic pour consisting of footing and floor slab. In California, some hillside foundations may consist of piers, grade beams, stem walls and floor slabs.
