Entering Data

NOTE-- We retired the BidMagic construction estimating software in 2001. It has been replaced by Goldenseal construction estimating software.

We still include this BidMagic estimating software manual as a convenience for users of our older program. Many features are similar, in Goldenseal estimating.

Entering Estimating Data

BidMagic estimating software makes it easy for you to enter measurements or other numbers into an estimate. You can use nudge buttons to enter them with the mouse, or type them in from the keyboard. Some items also use cycle buttons or pop-up buttons to give you choices.

To practice using nudge buttons to enter data into BidMagic, follow these steps:

  1. Choose Basic Costs from the Navigate menu.
  2. Move the Finger cursor so it is over the nudge button next to the Overall Fudge Factor (the first number field, near the upper left corner of the card).
  3. Click once on the upper part of the nudge button, and the factor will go up by 1%.
  4. Click once on the lower part of the button, and the factor will go back down by 1%.
  5. To move in smaller increments, hold down the Option key while you click-- the factor will go up or down by only .1%.
  6. To make the button move in larger increments, hold down the Shift key while you click--the factor will change by 10% at a time.
  7. To change the factor by more than one unit, click on the nudge button, and keep holding the mouse button down.

The factor will continue to go up or down, depending on where the cursor is located, until you release the mouse button. You can use the factor to make any kind of adjustment due to different styles of construction or other "intangibles'.

HINT: If nudge buttons move too quickly or too slowly, you can adjust their speed on the Preferences card.
