Basic Estimating Costs

NOTE-- We retired the BidMagic construction estimating software program in 2001. It has been replaced by Goldenseal construction estimating software program.

We still include this BidMagic estimating software program manual as a convenience for users of our older program. Many features are similar, in Goldenseal estimating.

To enter your basic business costs into the BidMagic construction estimating software, choose Basic Costs from the Navigate menu.

HINT: You can also click on the Compass button (at upper right), and choose Basic Costs from the pop-up menu.

This is the place where you will enter fudge factors, locality and quality factors, and wage rates.

Rough Estimating vs Finished Bids

The BidMagic estimation software can be used to do either rough estimates or finished bids.

Click the Rough Estimate button when you are looking for a 'ballpark' price for pre-qualifying or planning purposes (see page 113). In a rough estimate, you can use the Locality factor and Quality factor to make a quick adjustment to costs.

Click the Finished Bid button when you need the greatest possible accuracy for bidding purposes (see page 115). In a finished bid, you will not use the Locality factor and Quality factor, and those controls will not show on the Basic Costs card.
