State Payroll Blanks

Using State Payroll Blanks

The MacNail accounting software comes with a Payroll Blank file which computes Federal withholding and employer taxes for your employees each pay period. MacNail also supports state Payroll Blanks, which include the rates and formulas for state withholding, along with any state employer taxes. Payroll blanks for New York and California are currently included with MacNail. Blanks for other states (plus Canada, New York City and the District of Columbia) are available for an additional charge.

NOTE-- In 2000, MacNail was replaced by Goldenseal construction payroll software. Goldenseal is an integrated program that includes general accounting, job costing, payroll and project billing, plus estimating and other features. Goldenseal imports state payroll info from a free website download, and stores it in Tax Items and Tax Tables.

You'll use your state's Payroll Blank file when you make Payroll Reports. It will automatically calculate Federal and State withholding and employer taxes.

To start using a new state payroll blank, follow these steps:
1. Put your state's Payroll Blank file into the Accounting Blanks folder (located inside your Accounts folder).
2. Choose Payroll Options from the Options menu, and check the current payroll blank it is using (in the example below, the current payroll blank is 'Ca Payroll Blank'). If the correct Payroll Blank is already listed, there is nothing more that you need to do. If is not there, continue to the next step.
3. To change the current payroll blank, click the Change button (to the right of to the name of the current Payroll Blank).
4. Select the new payroll blank to use, then click OK. All future Payroll Reports will be made from the new Payroll blank file that you have selected.
