Employee Payroll Files

Updating Employee Payroll Files

Version 3.4 of the MacNail Accounting software now does a better job of keeping employee Payroll Files up-to-date. It automatically starts new Payroll Files at the beginning of each new year, it allows you to update Payroll Files at any time, even out of sequence, and it allows you to handle changed or supplemental pay periods.

NOTE-- In 2000, we replaced MacNail with Goldenseal construction payroll software. Goldenseal is an integrated program that includes general accounting, job costing, payroll and project billing, plus estimating and other features. It includes a much better payroll system.

To start new payroll files at the beginning of the year:

1. You don't have to do anything special. Make your first Payroll Report of the new year, as you normally would. Check it over, then choose Update Payroll Files from the Data menu.
2. The MacNail Accounting software will automatically create new Payroll Files for the year. There will be a Company Payroll File storing totals for the whole company, plus individual Payroll files named after each employee. Each of these files will end with the year. For example, if it is 1993, MacNail will create files called Company Payroll 1993, Allen Payroll 1993, Brian Payroll 1993, and so on.
3. The previous year's payroll files will still be stored in the Payroll Files folder, so you'll be able to refer to them if necessary.
