New Accounting Files

Accounting--File Menu

Excel's FILE menu includes commands that let you work with files in the MacNail construction accounting software. Use Page Setup to prepare for printing. Use Printing to print. You can turn on Page Preview and see what the printed document will look like, before you print.

NOTE-- Goldenseal construction accounting software replaced MacNail in 2000. It's an integrated program that includes general accounting, job costing, payroll and project billing, plus estimating and other features. Goldenseal stores all company data in a single file, so you don't need to create additional data files.

MacNail Accounting adds six new commands to this menu, to help you to work with accounting files in the MacNail accounting software.

NOTE: Some of the FILE menu commands may not be visible on a small screen. Drag the mouse down to the bottom of the menu to see the remaining commands.

*New Accounting File

Choose *New Accounting File..., to create a new MacNail account file.

NOTE: This command is different from New, which will create a new, blank Excel worksheet.

When you choose this command, you will see a dialog box listing the types of new files available.

Choose the type of new accounting file you would like to make, and type in a name for it.

NOTE: If you choose Labor Log and type in First Qtr. 1990, the new file will be called First Qtr. 1990 Labor Log.

When you make a new Ledger, you will be asked for a starting balance. Type in the amount that is in the account right now, based on your last reconciliation. If you are making a new file for an account that is already in a MacNail Ledger, this will be the number in the running total column at the very last row of the Ledger.balance forward

NOTE: It is easy to type in a new balance forward in your ledger. If you are not sure of the balance, enter any number now, and change it later.

When you make a new Ledger, you will also be asked for the first check number to be used in the Ledger.

After the new accounting file is created, you will be asked if you wish to make this file a 'main' file (see page 168).
You can find the new accounting file in the Current Accounts folder. Use *Open File to open it.

Running time: 15 seconds/1 minute.
