Labor Log

The MacNail construction accounting software includes Labor Log worksheets to record employee hours and track labor costs.

Use the Labor Log to:

* Convert time sheets into weekly payroll reports.
* Provide detailed labor costs for posting to the job cost control sheets (and for generating your own labor unit costs).

NOTE-- In 2000, MacNail was replaced by Goldenseal construction accounting software. Goldenseal is an integrated program that includes general accounting, job costing, payroll and project billing, plus estimating and other features. Goldenseal includes Labor Hours records, which are similar to the MacNail Labor Log.

Use the Labor Log if you have employees who often work on more than one project or more than one construction item in a week. Use it if you want to generate payroll reports from MacNail. Unless you have only one or two supervisory employees who rarely work on more than one project in a week, you will probably want to use the Labor Log.

If you use the Labor Log, you will continue to enter your actual labor payouts in the Checkbook Ledger. The Checkbook Ledger transactions will cover the actual paychecks, while the raw data from the time cards will go into the Labor Log.

All job costing will come from the more detailed information in the Labor Log. Any labor transactions in the Checkbook Ledger will be ignored when posting to the Job Cost or Profit & Loss worksheets.
